As many of you explorers know, Indy enjoys a good quest for an estranges relic now and then here are some of the most noticeable ancient relics.
The Cross of Coronado
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/1214263.jpg?1361104099)
The Cross of Coronado was a jewel-encrusted golden crucifix with a chain; named for Spanish explorer Francisco Vásquez de Coronado. It was believed to contain a piece of the cross Jesus was crucified on.
History
The cross was given to Coronado in 1520 by the Spanish conquistador, Hernando Cortés. At some point it was buried alongside other artifacts in a cave in what would later become Utah.
The back of the cross. It was discovered in an excavation byFedora and his gang in 1912. A youngIndiana Jones attempted to seize it and get it to a museum, but he was thwarted by Fedora's gang and their client, Panama Hat. Indy eventually regained the cross from Panama Hat in 1938 off the coast of Portugal.
He presented it to Marcus Brody, who felt that it would be added to the Spanish collection at the museum.

Grail Tablet
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/1642893.jpg?1361104282)
The Grail tablet was one of two markers left by three brothers, knights of the First Crusade, describing the location of the Holy Grail. The tablet was made of sandstone, and according to Indiana Jones, used an early Latin text and was probably from the mid-12th century. With the top section of the tablet missing on its recovery, the exact location of the grail could not be determined.
History
In the 1930s, while searching for copper in the mountains north ofAnkara, Turkey, engineers working for Walter Donovan unearthed the artifact. Donovan kept the tablet in his New York City apartment, and used it as proof that the story of the three knights of the First Crusade who discovered the Holy Grail was true.
He sent an expedition to Venice to search for the second marker which, according to the account of a Franciscan friar, was buried with one of the knights. Later, when expedition team leader Henry Jones disappeared, Donovan showed the tablet to Jones'archaeologist son Indiana to interest him in taking up the quest.
With the top section missing, part of the text of the Grail tablet read:
"...who drinks the water I shall give him, says the Lord, will have a spring inside him welling up for eternal life. Let them bring me to your holy mountain in the place where you dwell. Across the desert and through the mountains to the Canyon of the Crescent Moon, to the temple where the cup that holds the blood of Jesus Christ resides forever."―Translated by Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones and his father's companion, Doctor Elsa Schneider found that the text of the complete Grail tablet matched exactly the text on the second marker, Sir Richard's buried in the Venetian catacombs.

Friars Manuscript
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/8620204.jpg)
The Friar's manuscript was an ancient leather-bound volume telling the story of three knights from the First Crusade and their encounter with the Holy Grail.
History
The hand-painted manuscript was written in French in the mid-thirteenth century by a Franciscan friar who had the tale imparted from one of the knights returning to France before dying of extreme old age. Among other things, it told of a marker buried with one of the knights, and a painting of the Holy Grail which answered the question of whether the Grail actually glowed.
By 1938, Walter Donovan had acquired the manuscript and kept it in his Fifth Avenue apartment in New York City. Donovan kept the manuscript in a lighted alcove and showed it toIndiana Jones when he recruited Jones to help him in the search to recover the Holy Grail and find the lost expedition leader, Jones' father. Colorized photostats of some of the manuscript's pages were given to Jones for translation, and Jones kept them in his journal.

Crucifixion painting
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/356583.jpg)
A medieval Flemish painting of the Crucifixion by a Franciscan friarwas kept at a chapel in Austria-Hungary.
In 1906, Henry Walton Jones, Senior visited the original artwork, which depicted Jesus Christ's blood being caught in a representation of the Holy Grail, and kept an image of the piece above his fireplace at 25 Pine Road in 1938.

Crusaders Painting
Henry Walton Jones, Senior kept a painting of crusaders on the wall of his home at 25 Pine Road in 1938.
The painting depicted eleventh-century knights plummeting to their deaths over a tall cliff while one crusader appeared to be walking on the air toward the Holy Grail with outstretched arms.

Richards Shield
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/2152234.jpg)
Richard's shield was one of two markers left by the Knights of the First Crusade, describing the location of the Holy Grail. It was placed in the tomb of Sir Richard, one of the three knights in the mid-12th century. Richard had died on the trip home to France from the Grail's location. The inscription on the upper right section of the metal shield was an exact match to the Grail tablet, left in Turkey.
In 1938, the partially flooded Knight's tomb was discovered byIndiana Jones and Elsa Schneider in the catacombs of Venice, underneath the church, using research notes left by Henry Jones, Sr.. Indy opened the tomb to discover the shield, buried with the knight. He recognized that inscription on the shield matched the inscription on the grail tablet, and made a rubbing of the shield's text.
When a fire set by members of the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword reached the knight's tomb, Indy and Elsa dumped the shield and Richard's corpse out of the stone coffin, and flipped it over, providing a temporary shelter until they could find an escape. With a rubbing made, the shield had to be abandoned in the oily waters of the tomb when the petroleum was set alight.

Grail Knight's Book
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/5769074.jpg)
The Grail Knight's book was a large Bible kept and read by the Grail Knight, who guarded the Holy Grail at the Temple of the Sun. It contained illuminated borders and artwork to accompany its hand-lettered text.
In 1938, Indiana Jones had entered the Grail sanctuary to find the knight reading the Bible, which rested on a stone table. When the knight felt Jones' presence he stopped reading, grabbed his sword, and tried to strike Jones. Unfortunately, the knight's strength had passed through the centuries, and he fell backward upon his manuscript.

Grail Knight's sword
The Grail Knight's sword was a two-handed broadsword[1] wielded by the Grail Knight in his role of guardian of the Holy Grail at the Temple of the Sun.
In 1938, while the knight was reading his book, Indiana Jones entered the Grail's sanctuary. When the knight noticed his presence, he grabbed his sword and swung at Jones, raising it over his head.
However, after centuries of guarding the Grail, the knight's strength failed him and he toppled backwards under the weight of the weapon. Jones helped the Grail Knight get back up and when he saw Jones he smiled. Believing thearchaeologist to be the long awaited knight that had come to vanquish him in single combat for protection of the cup, the Grail Knight tried to pass on his weapon. Instead of accepting it, Jones lowered the sword and, pressed for time, he said he was unable to explain the situation when Walter Donovan and Elsa Schneider arrived to take the Grail.

The Holy Grail
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/5899256.jpg)
The Holy Grail was a Biblical artifact said to have supernatural powers. A person that drank from the cup was granted eternal life and youth, though this effect would last only until they crossed the Great Seal that marked the entrance to the cup's resting place at the Temple of the Sun. Water poured from the Grail could heal severe injuries, such as a gunshot wound. The Grail was discovered centuries later, by King Arthur. After the fall of Camelot, it was believed to be delivered by Sir Galahad to a monastery at Iona where the cup remained for around three hundred years. The monastery, however, was sacked by Vikings in the ninth century and the Holy Grail got a far as Kiev before trade or raid carried it south.
A depiction of Christ's blood being captured with the Holy Grail. The Grail was found in the Canyon of the Crescent Moon after the First Crusade by a company of knights from France, three brothers who swore to protect it. They lived inthe cup's sanctuary for nearly one hundred and fifty years. One of the brothers was chosen to stay behind while the other two returned to Europe, leaving behind a marker near Ankara about its location. Sir Richard's shield carried a second marker but the man died on the journey back, and was buried along with his shield in a tombin Venice, Italy. The third brother returned home and in the 13th century, told his story to a Franciscan friar, who recorded about the whereabouts of the holy relic somewhere "in a canyon deep in a range of mountains" and made a painting about it which was kept in castle Gasthof Trubselig, in Klasenheim.
The Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword was a secret society who perhaps knew the location and true history of the Grail. They swore to keep it safe from discovery and misuse.
Modern times
Indiana Jones's father, Professor Jones Sr., was obsessed about the Grail after a vision he had in 1898. He made thorough researches and travels for its study and kept several notes about it in his Grail diary.
G. Codirolli while in the ruin of Kaffa, discovered a parchment with the testimony of the physician who attended the dying of the Franciscan friar, when he mentioned the three tests. Codirolli later shared the Kaffa parchment with Jones.
Professor Jones was hired by antiquities collector Walter Donovan to search for the Grail but ended up captured by the Nazis. Donovan, who was in league with them, also obsessed over the Grail and planned to acquire it and later give it to the Nazis for their own use.
The Grail was located in a mountain-side temple in the Canyon of the Crescent Moon, in the Middle East. In order to reach the cup, the person was required to overcome three challenges. The first was the "Breath of God", the second the "Word of God", and the third being the "Path of God". Afterward, the person had to defeat the guardian of the Grail in single combat in order to succeed in being guardian. Finally, the person would have to choose which cup was the Grail, for it was placed on a large table amongst other cups. If the person chose right, they would be granted eternal life but cannot leave the temple with the Grail for that is the price of immortality. If the person chose incorrectly, they would have their life taken away.
On Elsa Schneider's recommedation, Donovan made the mistake of choosing a False Grail which he saw as most befitting a "king of kings" and rapidly aged to death. Indiana Jones, however, found the most modest of the chalices and recognized the true Grail as the cup of a carpenter.
The Holy Grail just out of Schneider's reach.Indiana recovered the grail in order to heal a gunshot wound that Donovan inflicted upon Henry Jones Sr. After Henry was healed, Schneider tried to take the grail from the temple. This caused a large earthquake, and the grail fell onto a small ledge in a ravine. Elsa, who had nearly fallen herself, was saved by Indiana and greedily tried to grab the grail below with her free arm. Indiana could not maintain his grip for long and despite his protests, Elsa overreached to grasp the chalice and her hand slipped from its glove where she fell to her death. Indiana nearly tumbled into the abyss himself, but was caught by his father. Indiana, like Elsa, tried to reach the cup, but was persuaded by Henry to let it go.
As a result, the Grail was ultimately lost following the events of the adventure, but the experience gave both Indiana and his father the chance to rekindle their rocky relationship.

Peacocks Eye
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/2975307.jpg)
The Peacock's Eye or Eye of the Peacock was an elusive diamond once owned by Alexander the Great. Alexander the Great had the diamond, approximately 50mm long by 25mm tall, mounted alongside a second as the eyes to a large golden peacock statue. After Alexander's death, one diamond was taken by Indian princes who cut it apart, while the other was believed lost to history before it was rediscovered and clues were left to its whereabouts. Following the end of World War I, Indiana Jones and his friend Remy Baudouin went on a search for the diamond in1918. After meeting anthropologist Bronislaw Malinowski, Jones decided that his quest was a wild goose chase, and chose to return home to attend the University of Chicago in order to become an archaeologist. However, Baudouin decided to continue his quest for the diamond, so the friends parted ways.
Nurhachi's ahes

Nurhachi's ashes were the remains of Nurhachi, the first emperor of the Manchu dynasty in China. The ashes were prized by gangster Lao Che who claimed Nurhachi as an ancestor and in 1935 he hired Indiana Jones to find and retrieve them in exchange for the Peacock's Eye.
Sanskrit Manuscript
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/3322849.jpg)
The Sanskrit manuscript was a centuries old cloth fragment of a manuscript written in Sanskrit that depicted part of the legend ofSankara, a Hindu priest who climbed Mount Kalisa and was givenfive magical stones by the god Shiva with which to go forth and combat evil.
In 1935, a village child of Mayapore escaped from imprisonment by the Thuggee cult of Kali with the manuscript and managed to make his way home. There he collapsed into the arms of the newly arrivedIndiana Jones clutching the artifact which helped the archaeologistrealise that the sacred rock stolen from the settlement was one of the five "Sankara Stones".
Jones kept the manuscript in his journal and headed for Pankot where he later discovered a painting with the same image as the cloth on the wall of a secret entrance to the Temple of Doombeneath Pankot Palace. He'd note in his journal that although the language between the two pieces varied slightly, their meaning was the same.

Sankara Stones
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/3066921.jpg)
The Sankara Stones were five smooth-polished stones shaped like lingams, rounded columns used as a symbol of the fertility aspect of Shiva. Two of these "Sankara Stones" sat buried underground the palace of Pankot while a second pair managed to fall into the possession of a Thuggee high priest's son by the name of Mola Ram.
The last of the five ended up in a small village called Mayapore located in northern India. It was found in a river and revered by the people of Mayapore because it brought happiness and prosperity to the village. They called itSivalinga or Shivalinga, and it served as the town's lingam. It had three notches on the side, representing the three levels of the universe according to their beliefs.
Sivalinga was taken from Mayapore by members of the evil Thuggee cult, under the command of Mola Ram, who also kidnapped Mayapore's children. In 1935, Indiana Jones — who had recently survived a plane crash — ended up at the village, and was sent to recover the stone at the behest of Mayapore's shaman, Marhan, and its chieftain. The Thuggee priest Mola Ram had brought his two and Sivalinga to Pankot, and set them in an underground templededicated to the goddess Kali, located below Pankot Palace. With the final two stones lying in the caverns below the palace, Mola Ram forced the kidnapped children to work in a mine to locate the last two stones, believing that with the power of the stones, Kali Ma would rule the world.

Chachapoyan fertility idol
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/603570.jpg)
The Chachapoyan Fertility Idol was a solid gold statue, six inches tall, representing Pachamama, the Chachapoyan goddess of fertility. The idol was hidden by the tribe's priests in a temple deep within the jungles of Peru. Braving the temple's deadly traps to stare into the idol's eyes became a rite of passage for young Chachapoyan warriors. In 1936, Indiana Jones, on commission from the National Museum and working from Forrestal's notes, managed to locate the temple and extract the statue, only to have it immediately stolen by rogue archaeologist René Emile Belloq. Belloq promptly unloaded the artifact in Marrakesh, where Jones later re-appropriated it from the shop of antiquities dealer Saad Hassim.
Head piece to the staff of Ra
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/209063.jpg)
The Headpiece to the Staff of Ra was a much sought-after medallion which was originally designed as a means to reveal the location of the Ark of the Covenant. The headpiece was designed to be placed atop the Staff of Ra and used in the Map Room at Tanis to reveal the location of the Well of the Souls, the resting place of the Ark. The headpiece was discovered by the archeologist Abner Ravenwood in 1926, and later came into the hands of his daughter Marion, who wore it around her neck as a medallion.
In 1934, Marion was robbed of the headpiece by a mercenary. She chased the thief to Tibet and teamed up with a member of theAdventure Society she met along the way. Together they tracked the medallion to a monastery where the thief believed the artifact was the key to treasure there.

Ark of the Covenant
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/6129645.jpg)
The Ark of the Covenant or The Ark is a biblical artifact. According to the Bible, the Ark was a wooden chest used by the ancient Hebrews to carry the Ten Commandments. When the Hebrews settled in Canaan, they placed the Ark in the Temple of Solomon, until it mysteriously disappeared. However, it seems that in about 980 BC the Egyptian Pharaoh Shishak raided the Temple and took the Ark with him to the city of Tanis, where he placed it inside the Well of the Souls to hide it from the eyes of his sun god Amun-Ra. The Ark changed hands between Indy and the Nazis several times before the Nazis took the Ark to a secret island base near Crete. After René Emile Belloq performed a Hebrew ritual, the Ark was opened. Ghostly apparitions emerged from within and swarmed playfully about the Nazis before adopting a more sinister tone; the spirits transformed their appearances from angelic beings into monstrous demons. Lightning burst through the soldiers and their souls were taken to be judged, then fire shot the cover into the sky before it fell back onto the Ark. Indy and Marion Ravenwood, who closed their eyes and looked away from the Ark, were spared from God's anger.
Crystal skull of Akator
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/3/17639043/3630051.jpg)
The Crystal Skull of Akator was part of the remains of one of the thirteen interdimensional beings that ruled in the Temple of Akator. In 1546, a group of conquistadors led by Francisco de Orellana stole the one of the skulls along with other valuables from Akator. On the journey back to their ship, however, the Skull telepathically compelled Orellana to return it to the city, and the resulting argument with his countrymen led to their murder at Orellana's hand. Shortly thereafter, however, Orellana was killed by the guardians of acemetery where Orellana had chased down his final victim. The skull was buried with him in his tomb overlooking Nazca, Peru. The theft fell into legend stating that whomever returned the skull to Akator would be granted its power.[1]
Centuries later, the crystal skull had become the obsession of Professor Harold Oxley, who intensely researched its connection to the Peruvian legend of the City of Gold. Oxley found the skull with and tried to return it to Akator, but couldn't make it past the mechanism that blocked the entrance to the city's temple and so once again buried it with Orellana at Chauchilla Cemetery. In 1957,Indiana Jones, Marion Ravenwood and Mutt Williams tried to keep the Skull from the hands of the Soviets who sought to use the skull for psychic warfare. The Crystal Skull was incredibly magnetic, even attracting metals (such as gold) that were not magnetic by nature. The Skull also had psychic properties, including the ability to communicate on a primitive level with people who stared into its eyes for a prolonged period. These powers also affected non-humans—Oxley used the Skull to divert an army of siafu intent on attacking him and Jones.
